Intensive In-Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Service

Children in crisis need help.  IICAPS works to stabilize and maintain these children in their own homes and communities by creating a strong working partnership involving child, family, school and community.   Weekly home visits and strength-based treatment help children learn to express themselves effectively,  educate parents and connect families to ongoing supports.  The Clinic’s IICAPS program is one of the first in Connecticut to be credentialed by Yale University.

Who we serve:

  • Children birth to 18
  • Children who can be discharged from psychiatric hospitals or residential treatment facilities with additional in-home support
  • Children in acute psychiatric crisis for whom hospitalization is being considered
  • Children for whom traditional outpatient treatment is insufficient to maintain them appropriately in home, school or community.

How the program works:

  • We accept referrals from psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, outpatient programs, Department of Children and Families, juvenile court, schools and families.
  • Children and families receive a comprehensive assessment of treatment needs, including psychological and psychiatric evaluation.
  • A treatment plan tailored to the child and family is developed and implemented by a two-person team of mental health professionals.
  • Time-limited family, individual and couples psychotherapy is provided.
  • Parents receive guidance and training in behavioral management techniques.
  • Crisis support is available 24/7.
